The National Nanomedicine Engineering Technology Research Center was established in 2009 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The center is based on Huazhong University of Science and Technology and integrates teams from the School of Life Sciences, School of Chemistry, School of Materials Science, School of Physics, School of Pharmacy, School of Basic Medical Sciences, as well as affiliated Tongji Hospital and Peking Union Medical College Hospital engaged in nanomedicine research. It is a multidisciplinary research and development technology platform that engages in the application research, technology development, product development, and industrialization of nanomedicine technology, nanomedicine materials, and nanomedicine diagnosis and detection technology.

In the past five years, as the chief scientist unit, the Engineering Center has presided over the "Nano Research" National Major Scientific Research Program, undertaken more than 20 national "Major New Drug Creation" major scientific and technological projects, national "973" plan projects, national "863" plan projects, and national key research and development plan projects, undertaken more than 60 National Natural Science Foundation projects, undertaken more than 100 provincial and municipal major scientific and technological research projects, and enterprise horizontal cooperation projects.
